I have often felt apologetic that I got out of my relationship the first time he actually laid hands on me in anger. I wasn’t beaten. But there is no doubt in my mind that I would have been by now, had I tolerated him literally pushing me out of the house when I failed to placate his growing anger with me.
I think if everyone could recognize abusive dynamics while they were still in the emotional preparatory phase, we could almost eliminate physical domestic violence.
